This Love is Meant for You

Love is a liminal space, isn’t it? We linger amidst precarious confines anticipating more, anticipating different, anticipating. We sit on top of bulky love, hefty and stout, smelling of cigarettes, dark beer and French roast. We let bygones be bygones, and we squirm towards something new, never quite landing where we are. Love flows through this moment like a warm southern breeze off to brisk the cheeks of fresh faces. If you get stuck in the wind, you might never feel the fiery sand and midday sun holding you closely and holding you long. What if we let the terracotta dust settle to the bottom of this mucky creak, and surrender to the seaweed and minnows?
Holding yourself at an arm's length from the symphony of elements, swirling about in a chicken stew asking to be known. The warm steam takes the red away from your nose. The chicken bled for your soup. Will you be grateful for its oily glow and celery seed notes? Holding yourself tenderly, in an embrace of spices, spices which have a fraught history of war and poverty land in your off-white ceramic bowl and sprinkle themselves into your wholeness. Big body of blue and green way out beyond sways, spits and sparkles, forging its way through deep time, finding a way to find itself again.
Returning home after the long days work, but the coat rack is wedged between time and space and the shoe rack slipped into oblivion. Must we seek an answer far away, in a time blown out of proportion? Be it, we linger here in this land of mistakes and ask the air to hold us, and ask the earth to hold us, and ask the fire to hold us, and ask the water to hold us. Worry not of being misunderstood, but more of drying up like a lake whose time is up. Worry not of standing out, but more of sinking to the bottom of the rapture and wiggling your way out of the unknown to a more buckled and contemptible existence residing in false senses of security. And when the water breaks, and when the tide comes in, and when a baby howls out for howling sake, know, know that this love is meant for you.
