About My Work

I find myself drawn most to poetry and writing in this lifetime. That writing always seems to return to nature. I am interested in the elemental connection that humans share with all that arise from this earth. Fire, water, earth, air and spirit. This is the centerpiece of my writing. I find myself reflecting, often, on how a seed recieves the biochemical signals of water and heat. Then finds itself rooted in earth as a young sprout journeying towards sunlight (heat), uptaking carbon dioxide (air), and emitting more oxygen to the air. I then take a deep breathe sharing the air with all things living as I sip my morning coffee. Sometimes the canadian wildfires blow air that is dangerous to breathe, and I have my coffee inside. I lament for all the wild that was lost, and all the little ones with fine particulate matter in their bloodstreams.

In a world full of division, it's so much more unique to focus on what we all have in common. The elemental nature of all things residing on this planet is at the core of that connection.

With the conversation of nature, connectness, poetry and enviornment, I am drawn to the climate and biodiversity crisis in my studies and in my writing. Like many writers, I write to understand, unpack and process that which goes on around and within me. Climate change has given me quite a lot to chew on in my writing, so I have stuck with that theme, as I have not yet come to terms with the processing.
